Owen Thomas is born

Owen was born on Sunday, March 22, 2009, at 6:30 PM. He weighed 5 lb. 15 oz. and was 18.5 inches long. Owen was born after a beautiful, sunny picnic with cousins at the river. Owen wasn't moving around that morning so Tom and I went to the hospital after lunch to get checked out. When we got there, his heart rate seemed fine, but while we were there it dipped to 70 bpm a few times and the doctors decided it was time for him to come out. Owen was born by c-section and came out healthy and strong! It took us two more days to decide on his name.

Owen's perfect timing: After a six week renovation, we moved back into our house the weekend before Owen was born. I unpacked most of the nursery two days before Owen was born. Tom went to all four nights of SXSW with his friends and he jokes that he barely had his SXSW wristband off before he put a hospital wristband on (don't ask how late he got home the night before Owen was born). Mom and dad (Opa and Nana) made it to the hospital just in time to pass the camera to a nurse so Tom could take pictures of the birth.
