Owen cruised the driveway waiting for people to arrive. He still struggles to reach the pedals so riding bikes means having one of us push him on his tricycle. It's a favorite activity, though!
This year, I made chocolate cupcakes with chocolate icing. This is an Ina Garten recipe with coffee in both the cake and icing. I was worried the kids wouldn't like the coffee flavor, but it turns out they're not too picky about their chocolate treats.

Owen and Tom are watching me try to light the candles, but the wind made it impossible so I gave up. We pretended to blow them out after singing Owen's new favorite song, "Happy Birthday." He sings it every day and we tell him whose name to use as birthdays come and go.
We were very happy to have some friends and family join us for Owen's birthday party. He had a GREAT time playing with everyone.
Owen sat on my lap while I went through some of these pictures. When he saw these he said, "I want my Nana!" My mom and dad do so much for us and we can't thank them enough for sharing their house and yard for Owen's parties!
How cool is it that Kate, Charlee, and Aunt Paula were here for Owen's party? Sweet cousins.

Owen LOVES it when Tom tosses him around and tickles him. He always asks for more.
After the party, Owen took a massive nap and woke up to birthday presents with the family. Owen became obsessed with Tom's guitar at home so we got him his own guitar for his birthday. He was so excited! He calls it a "gee-tar," which is adorable. "I play my gee-tar!" When he plays, he insists that other people dance. "Mama need dance!" Sometimes he insists that we play the guitar so he can dance. "Mama play gee-tar. Owen need dance!" Music and dancing are some of Owen's favorite things in the world.
Kate helped Owen unwrap and play with all of his new toys.

Owen scored big with family birthday presents this year: guitar, stuffed robot, baby doll, and books from us, wooden train set from Opa and Nana, and an alphabet toy for the fridge from Kate, Claire, and Charlee.
Owen is a total joy to be around. Tom and I look at each other every day and wonder how we got so lucky. Everyone thinks their own children are the MOST special and we are no exceptions. Owen is especially cute when he says "Mama makes Owen happy. Owen makes mama happy." He also includes daddy and other loved ones, but "mama" is my favorite version.
We love you, Owen! Thanks for the sweet hugs, the kisses, and the laughs.
