Snow Day!

We've had some crazy winter weather this year by Austin standards. As much as I dislike the cold, I'm pretty excited we got a real snow day out of it! This was Owen's first time seeing snow. He spent all day looking out the windows saying "no no no." He says "no" a lot these days, but this time he meant "snow!"

We all stayed home and I made waffles for breakfast, which seemed important for a snow day. It was such a cold day that we didn't try going outside until almost 10am. By then, our neighbors had already started sledding down our big driveway.

Heading outside into the strange white world...


Poor Owen. As soon as we walked outside, our sweet neighbor tossed a snow ball at his chest. Owen was already a little freaked out by the snow and the snow ball sent him over the edge for a little bit.


We probably could have let him ease into the day, but as soon as he stopped crying Tom took him sledding!







Building snowmen ("nomen") for Owen to knock down ("Owen knock it down!").


Lily came by for a few minutes, but she wasn't a huge fan of the snow either. The kids were pretty unstable walking in the snow and ice, especially with so many clothes on.

We were just about to go inside when 15-20 neighborhood kids came over to sled on our driveway. We had so much fun watching the kids sledding on plastic lids and cardboard boxes. We got to talk to lots of neighbors, meeting some for the first time. People came from other parts of the neighborhood because our hills are the best. For once, our hill is an asset!


Back inside, we got comfy and played and played.




There was so much snow (for Austin) and it was so cold (for Austin) that some of it was still around the next morning. I don't remember that every happening before.
