Owen the pallid bat and Cora the monkey

Leading up to Halloween, Owen was indecisive about what he wanted to be.  When he finally settled on a bat, I showed him a bat costume on Amazon and he refused it because his bat needed BLUE wings and the Amazon costume came only in grey or purple.  One trip to the fabric store and a late night of cutting and sewing later and the grey Amazon bat costume was successfully converted to BLUE!  Owen also wanted a superhero style emblem on the front so I added that too.

We had a monkey costume in Cora's size from when Owen was a monkey in 2010 and she was happy to be a monkey for Halloween.  We added her purple tutu to the ensemble just for fun. [Editor's note: It's now January, 2014, and Cora still says "I'mbeamonkeyhalloween" on a regular basis.  It's her catch phrase.  If you hear her mumbling something and you're not sure what she's saying, this is probably what it is.  She enunciates all of her words EXCEPT when she is saying this and she says this all the time.]

The week before Halloween, I bought the kids books related to their costumes.  Owen's book was full of interesting facts about bats.  After reading it, he decided that he would be a pallid bat because his book says that "Pallid bats fly along the ground searching for grasshoppers," and this is exactly what Owen likes to do too!  Cora's book was cute and both kids enjoyed the monkeys, bats, kangaroos, elephants, and penguins in it.

Before trick-or-treating, we gathered with our neighbors and friends for a pizza party.  It was a great night and I was grateful to our friends for hosting so we only had to show up!  The kids tore around our circle loop and we herded them from the street.  Cora hung in with the big kids for most of it and everyone had a great time!
