Owen has been flirting with mobility for a while now. Rolling is no problem, he's been up on his hands and knees rocking, and he can scoot himself into a seated position like a champ. For the last month I've started every weekend by saying "I think Owen will crawl for the first time THIS weekend." He's been doing a lot of moving, but most of it hasn't been in the direction he intends to go. He must be so frustrated. He sees a toy in front of him, drops down onto his belly, and then scoots backward instead of forward. He backs himself up against some piece of furniture and is farther away from the desired toy than when he started.
Thanksgiving day marked Owen's first real FORWARD progress and we captured it on video. He's still not a proficient crawler, but at least he can purposefully move in the direction he intends to go now. It's amazing to watch him figure this stuff out.
Meanwhile, we met with our contractor before Thanksgiving. He's ordering the parts he needs to get our railings installed. Our house is a baby death trap. We have an open split level house with lots of steps, ledges, and no railings. We're on it!
Here's to forward progess.
Here I am luring him forward with a toy...
