Thanksgiving

This year is all about Owen's firsts. This first Thanksgiving for him was a great one. In our old family tradition, we spent Thanksgiving with my mom's family. We had lots of good food, good wine, and good conversation.

We started feeding Owen solid foods when he was a little over six months old. And like the rule follower I am, I have tried not to give O more than one new food at a time. Until now! Owen is eight months old and for Thanksgiving dinner he got cornbread dressing, sweet potatoes (fully doctored with butter, cream, and cinnamon, but without the marshmallows on top), and cranberry jell-o salad. Yum! My Aunt Mary told us a story about my Granddaddy feeding my cousin Andrew EVERYTHING from the Thanksgiving table when he was close to Owen's age. I didn't go that far, but it did inspire me to ease up. So Owen has Granddaddy and Aunt Mary to thank for his feast.

Paula, Chad, Kate, and Claire were in Austin for the whole week and we spent two nights at my parents' house with everyone. It was so good to be surrounded by family and for Owen to get to spend more time with everyone. Owen laughs and babbles and is so much fun to be around, but Opa and Nana miss a lot of those moments when we see each other for only a few hours at a time. This week, O was his relaxed and happy self and everyone else got to enjoy it too.

Happy Thanksgiving!

We got very few pictures of Thanksgiving, but Aunt Mary just sent me this picture of my cousin Jennifer and me on the couch with Claire and Owen.
