Pumpkin carving at the river

In keeping with tradition from my childhood, we met my cousins and their kids at the river for pumpkin carving the weekend before Halloween. It was a beautiful, warm day and the kids were drawn to the water. Tom and I had to leave early to go to a wedding so we missed having dinner over a campfire, but we got our pumpkins carved and enjoying seeing everyone!

The week before Halloween was really warm in Austin and by Halloween night, our pumpkins were rotting in on themselves and we couldn't put a candle in them at all. Tom had to scrape them up with a shovel the next day. He says that was a never a problem in Buffalo, NY, where he grew up. I'll take the warm days and rotting pumpkins over NY weather any day.

The next day, we stayed at mom and dad's for some down time. Here we are playing a little soccer in the backyard.
