Railings in the nick of time

I said in an earlier post that our house is a baby death trap because we have a split level house with an open stairway and no railings. Well now we're all fixed up! Here are some before and after shots of the railings. We liked the open feel of our house before, but now that Owen is crawling all over the place, it is a relief to have the railings finished.

I also mentioned in this post that Owen was born just one week after we finished a six week renovation on our house. We moved in with my parents while we had the entire house re-surfaced (new floors, new trim, popcorn removal, new paint, and more). We couldn't decide then what kind of railings we wanted so we asked our contractor to finish the job without railings and promised to call him back before our almost-born baby was walking. He wasn't surprised to get our call in November. Please forgive the lived-in mess that is our house and focus only on the railings, thank you.
